Old-time "cable-slewing" machines.

    I'm looking for information about just how the mechanism worked to swing the old dredges, derricks, etc. These are the ones which had several wraps of wire rope wound round a circular-bent channel iron that went around the outside base of the rotating portion of the machine.

    Any information and/or leads would be appreciated.
